The Rotaract Club of North Bay-Nipissing and the North Bay Canoe Club celebrated another successful trip Up the Creek Without a PADDLE this past Friday afternoon at a sunny Olmsted Beach, raising over $8,000 for the Providing Adults with Developmental Disabilities Lifelong Experiences (PADDLE) Program.

Local community leaders were stranded in a dragon boat on Trout Lake where they called friends, relatives and colleagues for pledges in order to “purchase” a paddle to return to shore. Participants included Jason Berger, Vic Fedeli, Louise Goulet, Jake Lacourse, Chris Mayne, Ted Thompson, and Lori Venasse (for Kayvan Rouhani). Many participants asked to extend their stay onboard, while others committed to exceeding their personal goals on dry land, pushing the event proceeds over the $8,000 mark.
“This event brings together people from across the community and enables us to help the PADDLE Program continue to provide high quality programming for disabled adults in our community,” said Rob Perrotta, president, Rotaract Club of North Bay – Nipissing.

Young members of the North Bay Canoe club showed their support by collecting pledges for a spin-off fundraiser, “Paddle for PADDLE”, spending the afternoon paddling around the lake as spectators gathered. PADDLE students and staff along with community supporters from various organizations took part in activities and cheered on participants from the beach, while tunes provided by Kyle Selle entertained the crowd.

To date, Up the Creek Without a PADDLE has raised over $35,000.

PADDLE is a growing, community-based program that provides adults with special needs lifelong learning experiences through academics, physical fitness, life skills education, recreation and leisure. To learn more about PADDLE visit www.paddlenorthbay.ca.
