The Anishinabek Nation mourn the loss of the Honourable Jack Layton today.

Jack Layton had been the figurehead of the Federal New Democratic Party (NDP) for many years and often spoke out about the rights of First Nation people. “He always took the time to meet with us to hear our concerns. He was honest, approachable and cared about people”, said Grand Council Chief Madahbee. “He epitomized someone we all like to see in a person and he transcended issues from politics to the average citizen. It is a sad day for everyone”.

“On behalf of the Anishinabek Nation, Chiefs, Councilors and citizens, our sincerest condolences go out to the Layton family” Madahbee continued, “he was a good man and a true leader who we all learned to respect and admire.”
