News Release

Over the past week there have been two incidents reported where seniors have been contacted by phone by a male claiming to be their grandson. The caller states that he has been in an accident in Montreal and needs $4000 for damages or he will be arrested. The caller is very persuasive and in one case $2000 was sent via Western Union.

The North Bay Police wish to caution the public about these types of frauds. Any calls similar to these should be confirmed and the recipient should talk to someone else, preferably another family member before sending any money based on a phone call. The first clue that this is a fraud is the fact that they want you to send the money via Western Union.

When in doubt contact your local police agency.
