Friends of La Vase Portages Chair Fred McNutt was delighted with this years record turnout for La Vase Portages Canoe Day. Fifty two paddlers started from Brandy Lake at the Trout Lake end of the canoe route, and spent the day paddling and portaging the historic route to Lake Nipissing.

Neil Dellandrea (pictured), formerly from North Bay, drove all the way up from Peterborough with his hand crafted birchbark canoe and wore moccasins and period clothing to relive the history of heritage Voyageur route. Cooper's Lake, the last remaining undeveloped section of the Canadian Heritage River System was full of bright blooms of water lilies and purple arrowhead plants and was a pleasure to paddle.

Enjoyed by grand parents, grand children and every age in between, the sunny skies and warm temperatures made for a great days paddling and as always the riverside barbeque at Billy Bob's was a highlight for everyone.
