The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister for FedNor, today announced a Government of Canada investment of more than $3.7 million to support youth initiatives and small business development and growth in the Nipissing–Timiskaming region (see attached information sheet).

“The Government of Canada is committed to making strategic investments that support the development, growth and diversification of Northern Ontario’s economy,” said Minister Clement. “Today’s announcement will create youth employment opportunities throughout the region, support vital infrastructure enhancements at the North Bay Airport and enable the NECO Community Futures Development Corporation to help local businesses succeed.”

“I am proud to be part of a government that is investing to strengthen the economic foundation of this region,” said Jay Aspin, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming. “I look forward to witnessing first-hand the positive results this funding will deliver.”

FedNor supports the creation, growth and success of small and medium-sized businesses through the Government of Canada’s Community Futures Program. NECO is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDC) funded by FedNor to serve Northern Ontario businesses and communities. CFDCs are community-based, not-for-profit organizations run by a board of local volunteers and staffed by experienced business and economic development professionals.

“The funding announced today ensures that business development and growth in the Nipissing–Temiskaming region will continue to thrive,” said Roman Brozowski, Chair of the NECO CFDC. “We take great pride in the work we do, and our ongoing partnership with the Government of Canada, through FedNor, will continue to support the economic prosperity of communities throughout the area.”

The funding announced today was provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which support projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business development and growth and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
