CAW Local 103 announced today that it was placing ads in the The Metro a Toronto Daily Newspaper with over 538,000 daily readers to gain support for the Northern Ontario campaign to have the Ontario Government reverse the Metrolinx boards decision to award the 121 GO Transit Refurbishment contract to Canadian Allied Diesel of Montreal.

“The support we have received in our campaign from Northern communities, business leaders and the public at large has been overwhelming”, said CAW Local 103 President Brian Kelly.

“We are moving the campaign to the next level with the intent of garnering support from Greater Toronto Area (GTA) communities and the travelling public who use Metrolinx services”, continued Kelly.

“We are asking GTA commuters to contact the Premier directly via phone or email and tell him to reverse this decision and keep Ontario taxes and jobs in Ontario. The math of saving $2 million (the difference in the CAD and ONTC bid) but losing over $8 million in taxes to the province if the ONTC is not awarded the contract does not add up”, concluded Kelly.

The CAW Local 103 represents clerical, stores, rail and bus maintenance, on-board service Cochrane Station Inn employees, customer service clerks and crew management center employees in North Bay, New Liskeard, Englehart, Kirkland Lake, Rouyn PQ, Cochrane, Timmins, Hearst and Moosonee at Ontario Northland.
