OPP respond to emergency plane landing

The Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the Earlton Airport today at approx 4:45pm in response to a report of a plane that made an emergency landing.

At approx 4:30 pm a Leer Jet model 45 departed from the Earlton Airport. Shortly after becoming airborne one of the engines caught fire, the pilot immediately shut off the engine which extinguished the flames. The plane then returned to the Earlton Airport and landed safely.

All seven passengers and two crew members disembarked the aircraft safely. No injuries were sustained by passengers or crew and damage to the aircraft was minimal.

The OPP is working in conjunctions with Transport Canada to determine the cause.
