Less than a month remains before fundraising efforts come to a close for Duke of Edinburgh partcipants who have been trying since March to save the education of over six hundred Costa Rican students. $24,000 of the minimum $40,000 needed to repair Sarchi North Elementary School has been raised by the group.

Duke of Ed lead and NPSC Educational Assistant, Andy Hazelwood, said supporters from all over the community are
still approaching him with donations.

Kevin Dietrich, NPSC custodian at St. Joseph‐Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School, said the persistence and determination of Duke of Ed students to raise the remaining $16,000 inspired him to pitch in. “This cause became important to me,” he said. “I knew a group of good guys who would help out because we are all really impressed with what these kids have done.”

He collected donations from his fellow custodians, then approached Steve Bryon, President of The North Bay Recreational Basketball Association, who plays recreational basketball in the SJSH gym on week nights,
to do the same with his fellow players. Together they presented Hazelwood with $300.

Duke of Ed participants leave for Costa Rica on August 3.

Donations are being accepted until the end of July.

To make a donation, call St. Joseph‐Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School at 705‐494‐8600 or visit the school’s front office.
