Odyssée grads receive nearly $50,000 in prizes and awards

École secondaire publique Odyssée graduates celebrated the end of the school year and of their academic adventure at North Bay’s only French public high school. During their graduation ceremony yesterday afternoon, the fourteen graduates of the class of 2011 were awarded prizes and bursaries with a total value of $47,350. The French public school board’s alternative school, CANO, also distributed $300 to their two graduates, who were also part of the commencement ceremony.

“Our students are effectively impressed by the amount of prizes that were awarded to them yesterday”, confirmed the school’s principal, Lise Dupuis. “They worked hard and deserved those bursaries. Their future will be all the more promising, as they leave Odyssée with our encouragement, our congratulations, and this financial support to reward all of their efforts.” Among the prizes handed out, the prestigious Chancellor’s Award given by Nipissing University was received by Kurt Tempelmans Plat, who will be attending the university to study Business. The $19,000 award will be disbursed over a three‐year period, during his university studies.

North Bay Mayor, Al McDonald, was among the distinguished guests, along with a number of school board officials and representatives from the community. During his address to the graduates, McDonald noted the “unique character of École secondaire publique Odyssée and its important role in North Bay’s francophone community”. He thanked the school staff and students for the warm welcome that is always present and shared his pride for the graduating students as they always succeed in conveying a unique atmosphere that is
open to differences.
