An Azilda man has been fined $1,000 for failing to tag a deer.

Ned McDonald pleaded guilty to failing to attach his game seal to a white-tailed deer he had shot. He was fined $1,000 and was given a one-year hunting suspension. The deer was ordered forfeited to the Crown. A firearm seized during the investigation will be returned once the fine is paid.

The court heard that on November 2, 2010, McDonald shot and killed a white-tailed deer while hunting on Dokis First Nation lands. He did not attach his game seal to the deer because he was saving it for another hunt later on Manitoulin Island. Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers later seized the deer when they found it was being transported without a seal attached.

Justice of the Peace Gilles J. Lecouteur heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sturgeon Falls, on June 20, 2011
