City police cruiser involved in MVC at Algonquin Avenue/Hwy 11N

On Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at approximately 6:45 pm, North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a North Bay Police Service (NBPS) cruiser at the intersection of Algonquin Avenue and McKeown Street in the city of North Bay.

The NBPS cruiser was travelling northbound on Algonquin Avenue/Highway 11N with its emergency lights and siren activated when it proceeded through the intersection at McKeown/Airport Road when it was struck by a westbound vehicle. Investigation indicates that the driver of the Hyundai Santa Fe had the right of way when the collision occurred.

Drivers, Janice SWEET, 58 years old, and Constable Erin RACICOT, 34 years old, both of North Bay suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Officers with the Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI), North Bay OPP and North Bay Police Service continue their investigation.
