The Laurier Woods Is Growing campaign was delighted to receive support from several local public schools and their students recently. Mme. Blacker and her JK / SK Sunset Park School built a number of bird houses with materials donated by Home Depot and the bird houses are now for sale in support of Laurier Woods.

Alexandra Lannin, of Ms Wood's JW Trusler Grade 2 class, helped with a small donations campaign and raised $40 with the help of her classmates. The Tweedsmuir Public School Green Committee also made a generous donation of $100 towards the campaign.

Campaign chair Chris Mayne was pleased to report that the Friends of Laurier Woods have recently passed the half way point in their campaign to raise $100,000 to add 100 acres of wetland conservation area to Laurier Woods and all donations large and small are greatly appreciated.

For donations of over $100 or more, sponsors will receive a certificate of appreciation and for larger donations of $1,000 or more an acre of the new wetland conservation area will be recognized in their name.

A large sign or plaque will also be constructed at Laurier Woods to permanently recognize supporters of the conservation campaign.

Historically a wetland nesting area and migratory resting place for birds ducks & geese along Lake Nipissing's eastern shore, over the years much of North Bay has built over the wetland marshes. Recently the Province of Ontario declared most of the remaining space as Provincially Significant Wetland and the Friends of Laurier Woods are now buying back the last remaining undeveloped privately owned piece of the marsh lands to add to the Laurier Woods Conservation Area.
