The Near North District School Board is pleased to announce that the Senior Band and Concert Choir from Widdifield Secondary School both won Gold at the Toronto Festival of Music on May 19 - 21. The groups performed in the festival and participated in the workshops and clinics that went along with the program.

“It was a lot of fun to be able to perform in such a large auditorium. Attending a clinic with the adjudicators and hearing their comments on our pieces and how they thought we could make them even better was very insightful. It’s great to be able to get the opportunity to perform at various festivals and compete with other bands and choirs from all over Canada,” said president of the Widdifield Music Council, Maggie Turgeon.

Both ensembles performed excellently and received great comments from the adjudicators. The Senior Band was entered into a more difficult category than ever before and still came out on top winning Gold. The Concert Choir sang very well and came away with their first ever Gold placement. In addition, the 'Most Outstanding Ensemble' Award in the Choral Division was awarded to the Concert Choir.

“The Toronto Music Festival was an extremely rewarding experience for me as a musician, said Vice president of the Widdifield Music Council Jordan Rydzik. “I attended the clinic for woodwinds, and the clinician happened to be an artist Maggie and I had previously seen perform in a concert at Western University, which we had attended with the Ontario Honour Band. This clinician had given us a lot of advice with regards to proper breathing techniques.”
The Near North District School Board congratulates the Widdifield Senior Band and Concert Choir on their accomplishments.
