Former Medical Officer of Health for Nipissing/Parry Sound Dr. Catherine Whiting announced today that she will seek the nomination to be the local Liberal candidate for the October provincial election.

Former Medical Officer of Health for Nipissing/Parry Sound Dr. Catherine Whiting announced today that she will seek the nomination to be the local Liberal candidate for the October provincial election.

Surrounded by supporters Whiting made the announcement this morning at the North Bay Waterfront.

Whiting, who ran a family practice in the city from 1977 to 1985 and then was appointed to the position of Medical Officer of Health for the area in 1988, says as a mother and a doctor she remembers the Conservative era and therefore felt compelled to put her name forward.

"We can’t go back to the days of Conservative rule, we must go forward together with the good work of the Liberals, there is more to be done and I will work with the people, the communities and the decision makers to continue to improve the quality of life for everyone living in Nipissing."

"We can’t go back to the days of Conservative divisiveness and culture of blame. I remember the divisiveness and culture of blame of the last conservative government. As a mother with 2 children in school, I remember the crisis created in our school system with fewer teachers and larger class sizes," she states.

"As the Medical Officer of Health, I remember public health was gutted and that led to layoffs and good people were let go. I know how important employment is for health."

"We can’t go back. I will continue to move us forward."

The Liberal nomination goes Monday, June 13 at 6:00 pm at the Elks Lodge.
