30 people charged for talking and driving

Between Monday, May 16 and Sunday, May 22 Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police participated in the Canada Road Safety Week which focused on distracted driving. During the campaign, thirty (30) charges were issued to drivers talking on their cellular phones while driving. Police continue to be concerned with the number of people talking and/or texting behind the wheel. It only take one minute of inattention to cause a serious collision.

In addition, Almaguin Highlands OPP also issued fifty-nine (59) Provincial Offence Notices, which included twenty-four (24) speeders, nine (9) suspended drivers, four (4) seatbelts. Two (2) impaired drivers were charged and three (3) warn range suspensions related to alcohol were also issued.

Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police will continue to enforce the distracted driving laws throughout the year.
