École publique Odyssée student Kurt Tempelmans Plat has been chosen as one of only two recipients of the Nipissing University Chancellor's Award for first-year students.

This prestigious award is presented to a full-time student entering full-time study in an undergraduate program at Nipissing University with a minimum 85% average, who also shows evidence of personal leadership beyond local school class requirements. Kurt will receive $10,000 and an additional $3,000 every year that he maintains his average.

Recipients must also have demonstrated significant citizenship contributions to community. Over the past few years, Kurt has been accumulating hundreds of volunteer hours and was awarded the Chamber of Commerce's 40 under 40, the Student Volunteer Award, The Student that Makes a Difference among many others. He has spearheaded humanities projects like the 30 Hour Famine and his latest endeavour is to build a fresh water well in Africa.

Kurt will be entering Nipissing University’s Business Program in September and his long term goal is becoming a teacher so he can ultimately continue to have an impact on youth in the community.
