On Friday morning, the Honourable Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing, joined Marie Beaupre, Manager of Affirmative Dynamic Industries, along with Board members and community members to celebrate the purchase of a new truck and trailer. Thanks to a $43,900 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), the organization will be able to continue operating its business, which accepts contracts for lawn and garden maintenance, snow removal, painting, general repairs, cleaning, moving, and more.

“I am pleased to celebrate this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant with Affirmative Dynamic Industries,” said Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing. “I know that the purchase of this truck and trailer will have a positive impact on their program and assist their staff.”

Affirmative Dynamic Industries (ADI) is a non-profit business run by people diagnosed with mental illness who are on the road to recovery. It receives no operating funding from any outside agency and is run by a board of directors made up of mostly mental health consumers.

“Without the Trillium Foundation grant to purchase the new equipment the future of ADI was in question, as without a reliable vehicle it would not be feasible to accept new job contracts,” said ADI Manager, Marie Beaupre.

Employment is a huge factor in the individual recovery journey for someone with mental illness. It gives a purpose, an identity, and a feeling of contribution and worth to society. Work reduces usage of both crisis intervention and hospital services, and reduces disability payouts. It challenges stereotypes and reduces stigma and discrimination. It puts a human component to an illness and to a group of people many misunderstand and try to avoid.

ADI has been operating in North Bay since 1994 and currently provides employment for 25 people who are recovering from mental illness. For more information about ADI visit the website: www.adithewoodshoppe.homestead.com
