Woman dies after vehicle collides with ONR train in Sundridge Update

The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a passenger train on Paget Street in Sundridge on Monday May 23, 2011 at 3:19pm.

OPP investigation determined that a car travelling eastbound on Paget Street had collided with a southbound Ontario Northland Passenger train on a CN railway line. Railway lights and bells were functioning at the crossing in question at the time of the collision.

The scene was attended by OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (T.T.C.I.) as well as CN Railway investigators.

The female driver, 55 of Toronto, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The next-of-kin have been notified. The deceased’s name and the cause of death will be released following a post-mortem.

There were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision. None of the passengers or employees on the train were injured. Delays are expected until OPP T.T.C.I. investigation at scene is concluded.
