A new study released by the Toronto District School Board indicates that elementary students who visit a postsecondary institution are more likely to apply to college and university than if they had never had the experience. Preliminary data shows that these visits have resulted in 5 per cent more college applications.

Canadore College is welcoming 110 grade 7 and 8 students to the school on May 18 and 19.

"This partnership between Canadore and TDSB is vital in terms of getting students in the door and letting them experience what it would be like to attend college. This exposure is imperative to many students who may not otherwise think of a college education for their future. This model is a key part of our local outreach strategy. One of our main goals in upcoming years is to strengthen local connections and relationships," said Shawn Chorney, Acting Vice President of Enrolment Management, Student Services and Recruitment.

During their two-day stay the students get a first-hand experience of college life. They tour the three North Bay Campuses and walk the grounds and trails; take part in interactive workshops including Have a Safe Flight, Canadore's Very Own Candy Factory, Unleash the Magic, Computer Games in a Flash, Forklift Fun and the Amazing GPS Race; and stay overnight in residence.
