Ontario Northland and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference Maintenance of Way Employees Division (TCRC MWED) are pleased to announce that they have reached a new labour agreement. One (1) agreement has been ratified, which affects 173 unionized employees who are responsible for maintaining Ontario Northland's rail infrastructure, including track, buildings and bridges along the rail line. 65.5% of voting TCRC MWED members voted in favour of the new contract.

"This agreement is another tangible example of employees and management working together in this challenging economic climate to support the long-term sustainability and success of Ontario Northland and our communities in Northeastern Ontario," said Paul Goulet, President and CEO.

"Our membership recognizes the financial realities presently faced by the ONR and have bargained with those in mind." Said Bill Brehl, President of the Teamster Canada Rail Conference MWED. "Therefore, during this unique round we focused more towards improved 'quality of life' work rules. The achievement of these will not only make a tremendous impact presently but will also benefit many generations to come."

The TCRC MWED represents members who live and work throughout Ontario Northland's Northeastern Ontario territory. The contract, valid from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2014, provides for a cumulative wage increase between 3.5% and 5% over the four years, depending on cost of living increases. In addition, work rule improvements, which benefit both employees and the Company, were realized.

"The negotiation process was extremely positive," commented Corina Moore, Chief Operating Officer and lead negotiator for Ontario Northland. "TCRC leaders demonstrated a strong commitment to reaching an agreement that reflected the needs of both their members and Ontario Northland and as well, fit within the bargaining guidelines requested by the Minister of Finance."
