Relocating a major call centre operation to larger facilities has positioned Zedd Customer Solutions for a stronger future, safeguarding some 250 current jobs and creating 150 potential new jobs in North Bay.

Toronto-based Zedd Customer Solutions last summer acquired the North Bay assets of TRG Customer Solutions Canada at a time when the former company was undertaking a relocation and expansion of its facilities. Zedd now provides outbound and inbound sales and customer service on behalf of several major clients in the communications and financial sectors from its new North Bay location. The NOHFC invested $265,734 in the expansion of the facilities through its Enterprises North Job Creation Program.

Investing in Northern Ontario communities is a key component of the plan laid out in Ontario’s 2011 Budget – Turning the Corner, to create and support 10,000 new and existing jobs for Ontario families and to strengthen local economies.

“The fact that this company took over an existing call centre operation and nearly doubled its local hiring clearly demonstrates that our government is there to protect local jobs and support the expansion of businesses in the North,” said Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing.

“NOHFC funding in support of private sector investment is helping to lever many new or expansion projects that are creating many new jobs in business and industry throughout the North,” said Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry and Chair of the NOHFC.

“Not only are we proud to be a Canadian owned and operated company, but we feel this distinction is absolutely paramount in the call centre services industry and we are delighted to be expanding by putting down roots in Northern Ontario,” said Michael Cravit, Executive Vice-President, Zedd Customer Solutions.

QUICK FACTS

• In its Growth Plan for Northern Ontario released March 4, the Province identifies customer and back-office support services as an existing economic sector upon which it will focus part of its economic development strategies.
