The federal election race in Nipissing-Timiskaming was a tight one with final counts putting Conservative candidate Jay Aspin ahead of Liberal incumbent Anthony Rota by 14 votes. With that margin there will be an automatic judicial recount.

With that margin there will be an automatic judicial recount.

Final numbers at 1am looked like this:

Conservative Jay Aspin 15,507 36.6

Liberal Anthony Rota 15,493 36.6

Green Party Scott Edward Daley 2,550 6.0

NDP Rona Eckert 8,807 20.8

Total number of valid votes: 42,357

Polls reporting: 226/226 Voter turnout: 42,357 of 70,244 registered electors (60.3%)

All parties will meet at Elections Canada on Wednesday, May 4th at 2pm to start the process of the recount.
