POWASSAN - Officers with the Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) Powassan Detachment and North Bay Crime Unit are currently investigating the discovery of two individuals found deceased on the shores of the South River on Sunday, May 1, 2011.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., a local resident discovered the body of a woman and man.

Reports indicate the couple were last seen canoeing on the evening of Thursday, April 28th, 2011 in the area of Munro Park on the South River near the hydro pond. It is not believed they were wearing their life jackets.

Deceased are Germain MAILLET, 48 years old, and his wife, Melissa MAILLET, 29 years old, both of Municipality of Powassan.

The deaths are not believed to be suspicious and a post mortem is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 to determine the cause of death.

Investigation is still ongoing.
