Residents and visitors in the North Bay area are being warned of the potential for flooding in low-lying areas around Lake Nipissing and the French River.

Boaters are advised to use extreme caution on area lakes and rivers. People are also reminded to keep children and pets well away from swollen waterways.

The North Bay District of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority issued the flood advisory today. The water level in Lake Nipissing rose 11 centimetres overnight. The lake level is currently within the acceptable range, but is expected to exceed that range by Saturday due to recent heavy rains.
Residents of the watershed area are reminded to contact their municipality first for flood assistance.

The North Bay District office of the Ministry of Natural Resources will be staffed over the weekend to address flooding issues.
