Mad dash at Thompson Park photo gallery

Rain, sleet, sun and snow no matter the weather kids won't be kept away from coming the Discovery Museum’s annual Hershey’s Giant Easter Egg Hunt at Thompson Park.

“This is the first time we’ve had the wet rainy weather, but about two years ago we had minus 20 degrees weather and people come out no matter what,” says museum spokesman Dr. Rod Johnston.

“So it’s a really nice to see all these folks here having a good time.”

Hundreds of kids showed up in their rain gear ready to hunt for chocolate scattered throughout the park as well as taking in the activities like face painting, exploring a fire truck and visiting with the Easter Bunny.

Johnston says the event started as a small idea and has continued to be a jewel in the museum’s crown. He says all funds raise go into the operating budget which allows them to continue to offer great programing and service.

“It’s one of our larger fundraisers we raise around $3,000 and more importantly we get publicity and we get recognition from it.”

“This is our 14th year operating Hershey has been sending us the chocolate for all those years.”

“A museum is a difficult thing to get to break even and so we need every cent we can collect.”
