The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is facilitating a computer and electronic waste collection on Monday, April 18, as a kick off to a string of week-long activities leading up to Earth Day. Staff, parents, students, members of the community, and local organizations are invited to drop off any amount of unwanted e-waste between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Board administrative office parking lot, located at 1000 High Street.

NPSC is hosting this collection event with Greentec, a government-certified recycling service that provides
environmentally friendly and safe disposal solutions. Greentec's Ministry of the Environment-certified processes meet federal and local regulations which require e-waste to be diverted from landfills and recycled in an environmentally responsible manner.

“Our Board has long practiced the safe disposal of electronics,” said Josée Guillemette, Communications Officer.

“Since e-waste is a growing concern globally and Earth Day is just around the corner, we felt it was important to share this opportunity with our community in order to make a positive impact locally.”

It is important to remove and save any desired data from electronics before disposing them, as Greentec overwrites
hard drives and completely wipes out all remaining data from items collected.

Items acceptable as electronic waste:
Computers, laptops, servers, mice, keyboards, webcams, printers, scanners, cell phones, digital cameras, photocopiers, phones, fax machines, answering machines, monitors, televisions, routers, wireless, bluetooth devices, cell phone chargers. media players (Ipod, MP3, CD), video game systems, CDs, DVDs. cassettes, discs, radios, speakers, amplifiers, circuit boards, memory chips, camera memory cards, USB drives, wires, cables, batteries, microwaves, power tools, commercial and industrial electronic equipment.

Items unacceptable as electronic waste:
