Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca presents “Shine The Light”, a video contest in support of children’s mental health awareness. “Shine The Light” is an opportunity for
youth in the Districts of Nipissing and Parry Sound to show their originality by creating videos that will increase awareness and decrease the stigma that surrounds children’s mental health issues.

1 in 5 Ontarians under the age of 19 experience a mental, emotional or behavioural disorder that is severe enough to seriously impact their functioning at home, at school or in the community. Despite this reality, there is still a stigma surrounding mental health difficulties. It is
Hands hope that by hosting the “Shine the Light” contest that students will be encouraged to engage in conversations and to learn more about children’s mental health issues in their community.

Hands TheFamilyHelpNetwork.ca is offering terrific prizes to encourage youth to submit videos. The top videos will be decided by a panel of local celebrity judges. All videos must be submitted by April 28 2011 at midnight.

The contest culminates on May 7th, the final day of mental health week, with an awards ceremony, which will also serve as a wrap-up of Children’s Mental Health Week activities in the area.
