A Windsor-area man has been fined a total of $3,000 for illegal deer hunting.

Bogdan Pavlica pleaded guilty and was fined $2,000 for making a false statement to a conservation officer and $1,000 for hunting white-tailed deer without a licence. A rifle seized during the investigation will be returned upon payment of the fines.

On November 10, 2010, Pavlica’s hunting party killed two antlerless deer in the area of the East Road, near Monetville. This is in Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) 42. He tagged one of the deer with a game seal validated for antlerless deer in WMU 47. When questioned by conservation officers, he initially claimed that he had shot one of the deer near Port Loring which is in WMU 47. He later admitted that both deer were shot in WMU 42.

Justice of the Peace Michel Moreau heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sturgeon Falls, on March 21, 2011.
