On April 7, 2011 from 6 pm to 7pm the North Bay Police Service will be hosting an information session about the release of its new Autism Registry. This is an important initiative that has been developed with community partners, Autism Ontario, North Bay and Area Chapter and Hands the Family Help Network.ca.

The voluntary online registry promotes communication and gives police quick access to critical information about a registered person with autism. In an emergent situation the Registry will have reliable information such as a photograph of the individual, full descriptors, routine/favorite attractions, communication and other special needs, as well as emergency contact information.

Parents, care providers, media and anyone seeking information about how this registry will work are encouraged to attend the lower lecture room at Police Headquarters on April 7, 2011 from 6 – 7 pm.

Currently Miramichi (NB) and Ottawa are the only two communities that have such a registry. Ms. Zoye Coburn, Autism Pilot Project Team Lead, of the Ottawa Police Service will be in attendance to talk about her Service’s experience with the Registry in Ottawa.

Those wishing to attend or seeking additional information are requested to contact:
