The Labour Market Group (LMG) in partnership with the North Bay Newcomer Network (NNN) is pleased to announce an employer’s breakfast and workshop event highlighting current research information on workforce demographics, their impact on northern employers as well as showcasing innovative ideas and best practices to assist employers cope with these realities.

This breakfast and workshop event will be held at the Clarion Resort Pinewood Park, North Bay, on Tuesday March 29, 2011 starting at 8:00am with registration and complimentary breakfast and 9:00am opening remarks from Mayor Al McDonald.

Laura-Jane Cote, North Bay Newcomer Network Coordinator explains “ According to Hania Zlotnik, Director of the Population Division in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, over the last 20 years Canada and other developing countries have experienced a steady decline in the rate of natural population and we are now in a negative rate of population increase. This translates into a shrinking and highly competitive talent pool, not only locally but globally. The more informed our employers are regarding how to address these issues, the more competitive and ultimately successful they will be. This event is aimed at helping our local employers enhance their capacity to attract, retain and integrate newcomers into their workforce. ”

“This breakfast and workshop is a follow up to previous employer breakfasts and also addresses the state of the current workforce demographics. Local workforce shortages are imminent and this session will try to provide employers with additional tools they need to address their hiring challenges.” states Andrea Stoppa, Acting Executive Director at the Labour Market Group. “While the recent recession may have slowed the demand for skilled employees, the local economy is picking up and during our recent TOP consultations, employers expressed their difficulty in finding qualified applicants for positions currently and forecasted in need.”

The Labour Market Group is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and is part of the Employment Ontario Network.
