News Release

To date our Affiliate has built three homes: the first one on First Avenue East and two more as a semi-detached on Dane Avenue. Habitat for Humanity North Bay & Blue Sky Region is now pleased to announce the selection of the two new families for 2011 as follows:

Kirsten Simpson has four children ranging in ages from 3 to 9 yrs.

Alecia Maure has two children ranging in ages from 1 yr to 5 yrs.

Both families have patiently waited for the day that their names could be announced as the selected families. This delay was due to the required procedural paperwork. Now they and their children look forward to a home to be completed in 2011.

The family selection process, within the guidelines of Habitat for Humanity Canada, is a very involved non-partisan procedure that takes into account the family’s income and their ability to make the mortgage payments on the purchase of their new home. The families must contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” as their ‘down payment’. Within the respect of the Privacy Act all details of the families throughout the process are confidential.

2011 Builds: Our Affiliate has purchased a property from the City of North Bay located on the corner of John Street and Third Avenue on which we will be building our fourth home. This property is 55 ft along John St. and 100 ft along Third Ave. We will be starting construction when
the frost is out of the ground, hopefully by the end of April 2011. The house planned is a modest 3 bedroom single floor home.

By the permission of her family and by a resolution of the Board of Directors our Affiliate has named the design of this home as: “The Judy Shea House” in memory of her service. Judy passed away in February 2011 and was a passionate worker in Habitat for Humanity and many other like causes. She will be missed in our Community.

Additionally, we are in the final process of acquiring donated property on Highway 63 near Feronia on which to build our fifth home. We expect that this property will be announced soon.

In 2011 we are planning a number of exciting fund raising events to contribute to the 2011 Builds.
