The Heritage Gardeners will be celebrating fourteen years of success at our Fourteenth Annual Heritage Gardeners Symposium.

Our Guest Speaker is Sean James. Sean will be speaking on the popular topic of Xeriscaping. Xeriscaping is an environmental design of the land to reduce water usage.

Sean has been gardening professionally since he was sixteen and speaking to horticultural societies since 1991 when he graduated from the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture. He is the president of Fern Ridge Landscaping & Eco-consulting, and is a 2X past president of the Milton & District Horticultural Society. He also writes a national column in Landscape Trades on Eco-landscaping for professionals.

Sean has had the privilege to help put together the national curriculum for Horticultural Apprentices. He’s been featured on the CBC and was the landscaping guru for HGTV’s ‘Green Force’ and ‘Marriage Under Construction’. He sits on Landscape Ontario’s Environmental Stewardship Committee, the Ontario Invasive Plant Council’s Horticultural Collaborative, and the board of the Halton Environmental Network.

This volunteer appreciation event also features a garden market, door prizes, certificate presentations to long term volunteers and to our Honorary Heritage Gardener by City of North Bay Mayor Al McDonald. Our celebration will be completed with a lovely buffet lunch.

Fifty spaces have been reserved so that members of the public can join in with us in our celebration of volunteering. Cost is $30.00 and the deadline for registration for this event is March 25, 2011. Please contact Monica at 705-472-4006 or heritage.gardeners@heritagenorthbay to reserve your ticket.
