Two Hearst area residents pleaded guilty to various moose hunting offences and were fined a total of $3,000.

Serge Brouillette was fined $1,000 for failing to immediately attach his game seal and $500 for unlawfully transporting illegally taken wildlife. Steve Groleau was fined $1000 for discharging a firearm from a vehicle and $500 for possessing illegally taken wildlife.

Court heard that on October 15, 2010, Brouillette and Groleau were party hunting for moose near Hornepayne. Groleau fired several shots at a bull moose from an Argo off - road vehicle and the moose was subsequently killed. Brouillette had a validation tag for the bull moose, but failed to immediately notch and attach his game seal at the kill site.

Conservation officers found the pair in possession of the moose while transporting it from the kill site to their hunt camp. The moose was seized and permanently forfeited to the Crown. A firearm was also seized and will be returned upon payment of the fines.

Justice of the Peace Jean-Marie Blier heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Hornepayne, on March 7, 2011.
