This year, thousands of youth from across the province will have the opportunity to pursue their passion for Ontario’s natural resources through experience-based work and learning positions.

Job applications are now open for young people across Ontario to take on exciting jobs and gain valuable experience that will help them launch successful careers in the future. More than 2,000 job opportunities in natural resource management are available through five unique programs:

• Ministry of Natural Resources Internships
• Ontario Ranger
• Ontario Stewardship Ranger
• Aboriginal Youth Work Exchange
• Post-secondary Co-op.

In 2010, the province provided Nipissing youth with 138 job opportunities. These opportunities are part of a broader youth employment initiative that includes the Ontario Internship and Summer Employment Opportunities programs. These programs are part of the McGuinty government's Open Ontario plan to help every youth and student succeed and build a knowledge-based economy for the future.

“I am glad to see that the province is providing Nipissing area youth with job opportunities again this year,” said Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing. “Work experience is an important step is helping our young people to prepare for their future careers, as well as gain insight and skills in the management of our natural resources."

“We are pleased to offer Ontario’s youth opportunities to increase their knowledge and skills. Encouraging our young people to care for our natural environment is an investment in the future health of our resources that will benefit us all,” said Linda Jeffrey, Minister of Natural Resources.
