Conseil scolaire catholique Franco‐Nord has chosen the name “École élémentaire catholique Saints‐Anges” for its new Catholic French‐language elementary school that will replace École St‐Paul and École Ste‐Anne in North Bay.

The school will be constructed on the present site of École Cité des Jeunes at 681‐B Chippewa Street West. The name “École élémentaire catholique Saints‐Anges” was recommended to the Board by the committee charged with finding a name for the new school. The committee was
made up of students, parents and staff of St‐Paul and Ste‐Anne schools. The name “Saints‐Anges” was chosen because it is the name of the parish that, until its closure in December, served both schools. The name “Saints‐Anges” translates to “Holy Angels”. The gospel according to Matthew says that each child has an angel to protect him or her. The school will be the first in Ontario to be named “Saints‐Anges”.

“We are pleased that the community has chosen a name which recognizes the legacy of the Saints‐Anges parish. Conseil scolaire catholique Franco‐Nord wishes to thank everyone who has participated in the search for possible names and in the subsequent survey. North Bay’s Catholic French‐language schools are an integral part of the community of North Bay and all members of the community were invited to participate in the process of choosing a name for the new
school”, stated Cynthia Roveda, Director of Education at Conseil scolaire catholique Franco‐Nord.

École élémentaire catholique Saints‐Anges will open its doors to students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 in September 2012.

Conseil scolaire catholique Franco‐Nord provides Catholic French language education to students of diverse cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds in thirteen elementary and three secondary schools situated in Astorville, Bonfield, Mattawa, North Bay, River Valley, Sturgeon Falls,Verner and Thorne.
