Marking their diamond jubilee in the City of North Bay members of CFB North Bay and the Canadian military are planning a special celebration that will take on a historical flair that includes a Freedom of the City ceremony.

22 Wing Commander Colonel Malo announced Thursday morning that the celebration will be part of Armed Forces Day on June 1st over the lunch hours.

He explains that the military will parade from a central location to City Hall where the Freedom of the City ceremony, which dates back to the War of the Roses, will begin then the parade will continue to the waterfront where the celebrations will finish off with an air show featuring the Snowbirds.

“So members of 22 Wing, both of the military recruiting centres in the North Bay area, the Algonquin regiment, the area support unit north, as well as the 33rd Service Battalion, will be on location at the waterfront to interact with the local community.”

“Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the military to connect with the citizens of North Bay. I always say that our military presence here in North Bay is not as a distinct community, as you next door neighbours, parents at your neighbourhood schools and volunteers in charitable organisations throughout the city we are very much part of this community.”

“So we’re delighted at this opportunity to showcase some of the unique Canadian Forces capabilities that we have. In order to provide you the Canadian public and civilians of North Bay with a better understanding of the work we do in Canada and across the world.”

Mayor Al McDonald, who has personally been impacted by CFB North Bay, says he is looking forward to the event to thank and honour the men and women who keep our borders safe.

The event will also feature various static military displays at the waterfront.
