What: The Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach is leading a humanitarian relief team to the Dominican Republic to provide assistance and relief to approximately 2000 impoverished and malnourished Haitian refugees settled in make-shift camps and villages near the cane fields in north western Dominican Republic, close to the Haitian border.

When: March 3, 2011 - March 10, 2011

Who: The team consists of 33 people: Three doctors, two dentists, one nurse, one hygienist, a retired police officer, and 25 Rotarians, their spouses and other community members.

Why: Marg says, “It is something I have always wanted to do, and when this came across my path, I jumped at it. I look forward to the experience, as heart rending as it may be, and helping in any way to ease the misery these refugees go through daily.”

ABOUT THE RELIEF EFFORT

In addition to the expertise provided by the medical professionals, the team will be taking medical supplies acquired through donations-in-kind from medical/dental clinics and suppliers.

and other materials.

The team will also take items for children to enjoy: Sports balls, skipping ropes, colouring books, crayons etc.
