Ontario is helping agencies in Nipissing provide improved services for individuals with developmental disabilities and families struggling with domestic abuse by supporting local repairs, renovations and upgrades.

Community Living helps people with developmental disabilities lead active, fulfilling lives. The Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing is a non-profit organization providing professional counselling services and community programs to individuals, couples, and families. The Centre also has public education and consulting services available to community organizations and industry. Ontario is investing $18,713 in three community agencies throughout Nipissing to help improve accessibility and security, or meet necessary building code and health and safety requirements.

Nipissing agencies sharing in the funding include:

Community Living Mattawa
Electrical upgrades
$11,500

Community Living North Bay
2 metal fire doors and frames-Ensuite
$2,713

Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing
Heat sensors/fire alarms tied into building alarm system and stairway tread repair
$4,500

Today’s announcement is part of the government’s ongoing investment to help keep community facilities in good repair, and improve accessibility and services for those in need. These investments also support the province’s Open Ontario Plan to create new opportunities for jobs and growth across the province.

“Every investment we make in our social service agencies is an investment in the people and families of Nipissing,” said Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing. “Making these investments will strengthen our community, and our economy.”

“Community service providers want to help people, not worry about leaky roofs or broken furnaces. Helping them pay for repairs and important renovations means they can focus more on people and less on finding the funds they need to keep their buildings safe and secure,” said Madeleine Meilleur, Minister of Community and Social Services.

“This new funding announcement will improve the safety of our Foundations building by upgrading the electrical infrastructure. Monique Smith’s continued support for Community Living Mattawa and the provincial Government’s ongoing investments create new work opportunities in our town and go a long way in maintaining a safe environment for people with disabilities to learn, grow and contribute to the life of their community”, said Laura Pierce, Executive Director of Community Living Mattawa.
