The future promises to be one of change at Canadore College. President George Burton said that the College will build on its solid foundation and implement new and exciting initiatives in 2011.

In the coming year, Canadore will continue to embrace a culture of continual change and innovation. "The College is extremely proud of its history of strong programming and successful graduates. We are evaluating all institutional practices to remain successful, innovative and sustainable," said Burton. "As we look to the future, we will make decisions to renew and best serve the needs of our students, stakeholders and community partners."

According to President Burton, Canadore's future involves improving on its existing strengths and expanding its boundaries with a focus on five key areas:

Student Success:

Canadore College exists for its students; to help them maximize their potential, acquire skills for employment, set up a basis for further education, or all three combined.

Program and Service Excellence:

Canadore College will continue to strive to deliver excellent programming and core services in order to prepare graduates to compete locally and globally for jobs.

Connection to Community:

Canadore College is a vital part of the community. The College is committed to maintaining and improving its community connections through our staff and students being involved with local organizations, fundraising, partnerships and more.

Sustainability:

Canadore College will cultivate a culture of sustainability - environmentally and financially. As a publicly-funded institution, the College has a responsibility to set an example of stewardship and accountability to our students and the public.

Innovation:

Canadore College will continually look towards innovation and reinvention in programming, services and technology to be responsive to the community and help our students reach their full potential.

These foundational values are the basis for seizing the opportunity to restructure the institution's practices and launch new programming and services to meet shifting demand in growth areas.

"Program and service evolution is a necessary practice as we move forward to create greater support for student success and expand the potential for institutional growth and capacity," said Marianne Bérubé, Chair of Canadore College's Board of Governors.

"This is a time of change at Canadore. We are excited to be proposing new, innovative and flexible programs based on the feedback and support we have received from our community partners," said Burton. "Our board recently approved five new programs for the Fall of 2011 - Civil Engineering Technician, Diabetes Education, Mobile Application Developer, Financial Services and Rural Recreation - and we are currently investigating a number of other disciplines to meet employer demand in emerging sectors."

While the College is introducing fresh and exciting programming, it will be suspending certain programs for the Fall 2011 semester.

No new student intakes will occur for:

- Business Co-op Programs,
- Business Administration - Marketing,
- Small Business Administration/Management,
- Computer Programmer Analyst,
- Computer Systems Technician/Technology - Networking,
- Crime Scene Investigation,
- Dental Assisting,
- Hotel and Restaurant Administration/Operations,
- Internet Applications and Web Development,
- Journalism - Print and Broadcast and
- Law Clerk

Students currently enrolled in the affected programs will be fully supported in the completion of their programs and Canadore will maintain a high level of programming and support.

Members of the program advisory committees serving the suspended programs have been invited to contribute on alternate advisory working groups for related disciplines.

The College has also reached out to its donors to inform them of the transformative programs and services process and looks forward to their continued support towards Canadore College and its students.

The Board of Governors and President Burton look forward to the future. Canadore College will continue its tradition as an outstanding college and as a valued partner to our students and the communities it serves.
