City police warn of telephone fraud

On 10 Feb a North Bay woman received a phone call from a female who advised she was calling from Microsoft. She explained that the woman had a virus on her computer that needed attention. The caller gave the woman instructions over the phone on the installation of anti-virus software but was charged $198.39 and an additional $103.92 annual fee.

Investigation has revealed the call originated in Florida and was determined to be completely fraudulent.

The North Bay Police Service wishes to caution the public about this type of fraud. A good rule to follow is not to enter into any financial exchange with anyone where you did not initiate the contact.
