Hwy 17 East at Chalk River is closed to all tractor trailers Update

Petawawa – The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are continuing to investigate a fatal motor vehicle collision that was reported at approximately 10:17 am on the 3rd of February 2011 involving two vehicles. The collision occurred on Hwy 17 just east of Chalk River in the Town of Laurentian Hills.
Investigation indicates that an east bound Ford Focus collided with a west bound GMC Sierra pick up truck. The driver of the Ford Focus, 72 year old Patricia Harvey of Deep River died at the scene. There were no passengers in the Ford Focus.

The pickup truck was driven by 57 year old Joe Torlone of Timmins. The passenger in the pickup truck was 64 year old Jack Watson also of Timmins. Both were taken to Deep River Hospital by ambulance, with minor injuries.
Hwy 17 is now reopened.

The Town of Laurentian Hills Fire Department as well as the County of Renfrew Paramedics Services assisted at the scene. Traffic Collision Investigators are on scene and are assisting with the investigation. P/C John Riendeau is the investigating officer. The investigation is continuing.

Hwy 17 is closed to all tractor trailers in the area of Chalk River in the Town of Laurentian Hills. East bound tractor trailers out of North Bay should consider taking Hwy 60 to Hwy 41. West bound tractor trailers from Ottawa should detour at Hwy 41 to Hwy 60.

There are detours in place at Clouthier Road and Hwy 17 for west bound regular sized vehicles and for east bound regular sized vehicles at Main St. in Chalk River in the Town of Laurentian Hills.

The investigation is continuing.
