The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign is officially underway starting February 9th 2011. This year’s campaign will be kicked off with a corporate breakfast sponsored by the Best Western. “It is our hope that the corporate community as well as individuals will seriously consider supporting this campaign as it has a year round impact on the quality of life for our citizens”, said campaign chair Dave Saad. “This campaign is an investment in our community and as such, we encourage and appreciate your consideration in ensuring that a much needed program remains strong and available to those in need in our community

The Strong Kids Campaign is a national program where all local YMCA’s across Canada operate a local campaign to generate funds. The funds, which all stay locally, are used to ensure that no child or family is turned away from the Y due to their economic situation. The program has run for a number of years and is a key component to ensuring that the YMCA is available to anyone who wishes to have the opportunity to participate.

During 2010, the North Bay YMCA was able to provide just over $170,000 in assisted memberships to children, youth and families. Access to childcare, recreation and fitness programs and swim programs are made available as a result of this program. “This is one of the most important programs we run at the YMCA”, stated CEO Kim Kanmacher. “As a charitable organization, the YMCA has an obligation to do whatever it can to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. This program ensures that the opportunity to participate is available to anyone who requires assistance in our community. Our team at the Y strongly supports this program because we have seen first hand the tremendous impact that it has on individuals and families.”

Donations can be made at the YMCA or on line at www.strongkids.ca. For more details you can call the YMCA at 497-9622 or go on line.
