A Chapleau man has been fined a total of $375 for fishing offences.

Nicholas Dillon pleaded guilty and was fined $125 for fishing without a licence and $250 for making a false statement to a conservation officer.

Court heard that on January 17, 2010, a conservation officer checked Dillon while ice fishing on Chartrand Lake. Dillon lied to the officer and told him he was only 17 years old, not requiring a fishing licence. It was later determined that Dillon was 18 years old, which meant he required a valid Ontario fishing licence.

Justice of the Peace Alex Spence heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Chapleau, on January 12, 2011.
