From January 17 to 23 celebrate Environmental Public Health Week. This annual event recognizes the work of Canada’s Public Health Inspectors certified through the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).

Certified Public Health Inspectors are trained health-science professionals who work to safeguard and enhance the health of people in your community. At the Health Unit, Public Health Inspectors apply provincial public health protection standards in a variety of community settings. Their duties include:

• Inspecting food premises where food is prepared, served or stored such as restaurants, supermarkets and healthcare facilities
• Ensuring everyone has access to safe drinking water
• Protecting you and your children from contact with infectious diseases through inspection of personal service and day care facilities.

More information about the work of Environmental Public Health Inspectors is available at www.ciphi.ca, or by contacting the Health Unit at 705.474.1400 or toll free at 1.800.563.2808.
