No smoke and mirrors with Vrebosch

You won’t find smoke and mirrors when it comes to his style of politics is what Bill Vrebosch told a room full of supporters today as he announced he is seeking the local PC nomination during a news conference.

“What you see is what you get.”

During the recent municipal election Vrebosch said he was not interested in seeking another political position but in speaking with a number of community leaders has changed his mind. His change of heart has come under scrutiny by many East Ferris Residents and he told reporters today that the question and scrutiny was fair, but assured everyone he is not abandoning East Ferris rather he is looking to bring their best practises to the rest of the riding.

“It really isn’t a change of heart -- people will say it’s a change of heart but what I’m doing is bringing the East Ferris philosophy of fiscal management system to the district of Nipissing,” he states.

“I’m very proud of East Ferris and the people have elected me for that reason and I don’t think they are going to be disappointed if I bring that philosophy through to the rest of the district.”

“I personally was not interested in that point of time. I have to tell you when I run an election to win an election; I was running to win the municipal seat in East Ferris. I had been approached in the last month or so by many, many business people throughout the region and saying we need you to bring more of your philosophy and the fiscal management system of East Ferris into the Nipissing district … I thought about it hard, I talked to a lot of people in East Ferris, and there will be some people upset with this but most of them are telling me go for it.”

Former North Bay Mayor Vic Fedeli is scheduled to announce his intentions to run for the provincial seat on Wednesday and Vrebosch promised to keep the competition civil.

“Politics is a dirty game there’s no other secret about it, but there’s a respect to politics for instance when Monique and I had our problems during the election when the election was over we met and we’ve treated each other with respect since that, she’s the MPP, I’m the Mayor we sometimes differ we sometimes we get along,” he explains.

“This morning for instance she came down and gave me a million dollars for my township this afternoon I’m making a PC announcement, so I mean there is a professionalism to politics and it doesn’t always have to be confrontational.”

He also says that this nomination will be the biggest battle the party has seen and in order for him to beat Fedeli he will have to sell over 2,000 memberships before the end of February.

“I’m saying to you, you have the two most powerful politicians in the area going after the same thing that’s going to draw people. We’re not just going to draw PCs we’re going to draw everybody.”

“Vic has a different draw I have a different draw I was born and brought up in the east end of North Bay I’m a working class type of person and I’m hoping to attract that person.”
