On Fri at lunch time 2 women stood and watched the cashiers at a grocery store. They picked a cashier that was busy and a new employee then asked her to change three 100 dollar bills into 20’s. The women kept talking to her while she counted and then requested 50’s. They kept trying to confuse the cashier. Shortly after they left the till was balanced and was $100.00 short. The 2 women tried to do the same at another business but the manager was present and directed them to a bank.

The women are described as Middle Eastern, with heavy accents, wearing long dark dresses.

The North Bay Police wish to caution retailers to brief their employees about these types of fraud. There are several types of flim flams that are used. They target busy cashiers and usually ask for change, then change their mind and take a bill back in the middle of the transaction confusing the entire transaction. The North Bay Police Service suggests that anyone requesting change for large bills be referred to a bank. If that is not feasible to the retailer then every trans action should be completed before any other alteration to the transaction is made.

Anyone with information on these or any other crimes are asked to call Near north Crime Stoppers at 476-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-222TIPS (8477) Submit tip online at our website www.nearnorthcrimestoppers.com All tipsters remain anonymous.
