Alberta man faces a number of charges following MVC

On Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 10 p.m., North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, just east of the city of North Bay.

A motorist travelling eastbound on Highway 17 observed a motor vehicle, pick up truck, in the north ditch and a short distance away a lone male was walking. When the motorist stopped to provide assistance, the lone male ran across the highway and into the bush. Police were contacted and officers with the North Bay OPP Detachment and Emergency Response Team attended. The area was searched and the man was located shortly before 11 p.m.

Investigation revealed the vehicle in question had been stolen. As a result, Robert Anthony BELL, 62, of Fort McMurray, Alberta is charged with:

* Theft Under $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle, s. 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);
* Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, s.355(b) CC;
* Impaired Operation, s. 253(1)(a) CC;
* Fail to provide Breath Sample, s. 254(5) CC;
* Drive Disqualified, s. 259(4) (a) CC; and with
* Possession Schedule II Cannabis Marihuana - under 30grams, s. 4(1) of the Controlled Drug Substances Act (CDSA).

BELL was held for a bail hearing on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 10a.m. in North Bay.
