The Alliance Alligators made a special delivery to Chippewa Friday, for 28th annual Salvation Army Food Drive for Chippewa and the second annual combined food drive between the two schools.

Over 100 junior and senior students from Alliance, the French Immersion Public School, marched their way down High Street to the intermediate school while pulling their contribution on sleds.

Once at Chippewa there was time to greet school mascots Allie the Alligator and Rowdy Raider plus enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and sing a few carols before heading back to class at Alliance.

Student Council advisor Colleen Point says it is great to have one of their family schools participate on the long standing Raider tradition. She says Chippewa has been supporting the Salvation Army Food Bank for over 25 years with an annual in-school food drive.

“We are supporting the Salvation Army Food Bank because they support citizens in the outlying areas not just North Bay and there is great need in the rural areas,” note Student Council Food Drive co-chairman, Mike Bodley.

“The French language learners at Alliance get to practice their developing language skills with senior French students. Those senior students will also get an opportunity to be positive role models for the younger immersion students. It’s a win- win for everyone.”

In exchange for the food the Chippewa students delivered printer cartridges that Alliance is collecting.
