Happy 100th Birthday Isobel

Isobel Molineux, a longtime resident of The Empire in North Bay, has just turned 100 years young. Isobel’s friends and family gathered at The Empire on Saturday December 4th to join in her celebration. Her immediate family includes son and daughter-in-law Jim and Margaret Molineux, granddaughter and husband Wendy and Ben Holyday (Caledon, Ontario) with great-grandchildren Scott (7) and Claire (4) and grandson and wife Dr. Michael and Eva Molineux (Ventura, California).

On December 2nd 1910 in Sudbury Ontario, Isobel was born to Mary and Arthur Bert Carr. Isobel grew up in Sudbury and graduated high school at the age of 16. In 1928 at the age of 18, Isobel attended what was then known as the North Bay Normal School. Upon graduating, Isobel taught small schools in Central and Northern Ontario and ended up back in Sudbury where she met her future husband, Eric Molineux, an Auditor at the Canadian National Railway. After being married in 1934, Eric and Isobel moved to North Bay, had a son who was Isobel’s focus for the following 13 years. Isobel went back to teaching in 1952, and taught at schools including Vincent Massey P.S., O’Brien St. School and Carmichael P.S., retiring in June of 1977. Following her retirement, Isobel volunteered as an Education Convener for the Canadian Cancer Society for North Bay and area visiting 69 schools throughout the district. Isobel attributes her longevity to never smoking and being active, participating in activities such as tennis, curling, skiing as well as duplicate bridge. Isobel was a member of the North Bay Granite Club where she was lead for the rink representing Northern Ontario in the Ontario Senior Ladies Curling Championship in February 1980.
