LONDON - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) unsolved homicide investigations team (UHIT) has laid a first degree murder charge as a result of the 1992 murder of Lawrence Kitakijick of London, Ontario.

The investigation began on August 15, 1992 when human remains were found in the area of the Tecumseh monument near Thamesville by a passing motorist.

A post mortem examination identified the victim as Lawrence Kitakijick who was 27 years of age at the time of his murder.

Kitakijick died as a result of multiple gun shot wounds.

Lawrence Kitakijick was originally from the White Sands First Nation near Armstrong, Ontario and had left to find work in Tillsonburg in 1988.

A short time later, he moved to London where his father had joined him.

Kitakijick was last seen in London by his father.

Investigators have reason to believe that he was fatally shot in London near the Horton Street Bridge.

The investigation under the direction of Detective Inspector Ian Maule of the OPP criminal investigation branch (CIB) interviewed numerous witnesses and utilized a multi-disciplinary approach.

Detective Inspector Maule said: "Thanks to the tireless efforts of investigators, this investigation has been brought to a successful conclusion."

Forensic testing of exhibits submitted to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto by the OPP UHIT had resulted in a DNA profile of the accused being developed.

Roshan Norouzali, age 47 currently an inmate at the Collins Bay Institute in Kingston, Ontario has been arrested.

He has been returned to London where he will be remanded on the charge of first degree murder.
